The UFC has become a huge draw over the last decade or so. Two men bashing each others faces in, while trying to lock on random submission holds that could break a persons limbs, in order to achieve victory. Some of those fights are some of the most action packed pieces of entertainment you’ll encounter on a television set, while most of the others just put me to sleep. Overall it has its ups and downs, but manages to have that one big fight that everyone will clamor on about. It wasn’t until Brock Lesnar entered the UFC that I began to take noti–

….what’s that?

….

Oh that’s embarrassing — I thought I was reviewing an Ultimate Fighter game on the Super Nintendo.

….oh wait, I am reviewing an Ultimate Fighter game on the Super Nintendo, but it’s not the Ultimate Fighter that we’ve all come to know?

If that’s the case, then why the heck is the first thing anyone sees when booting the game up is this –
Unraveling this paradox of perplexity is a lot more complex than you may think. You see, Ultimate Fighter has a fighting component to it, although it’s mostly convoluted and makes absolutely no sense. You can select a tournament mode in which you can select a generic character and fight an opponent in a completely half ass fighting game-like way. You can throw a fireball in the typical shotokan way, but that’s about it. All of your other moves are restricted to punches, kicks and sweeps. Knock you opponent down 2-3 times and you win your match. There’s no thought, strategy or intelligence needed to pick up a victory. On top of that, the controls feel robotic, with a jump that just needs to be seen to be believed.

Then there’s a story mode of sorts, which, to be honest, is so idiotic that its not even worth mentioning. The jist of it is you’re moving from left to right, very much like Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers on the same system, killing waves of unintelligent henchmen with zero variety within each stage outside their color attire, fighting mini bosses along the way. Occasionally, you’ll tune into the Power Rangers aura and morph into some silly looking character in which you’ll fight the same mini boss you defeated, who also transformed into some mildly hilarious looking character. Once you defeat your opponent, you switch back and carry on, like nothing happened. What?

The backgrounds have absolutely no rhyme or reason to them. Just take a look at the businessmen cheering you on!

The audio and video are below average for a Super Nintendo game, featuring some uninspiring backgrounds and barely passable character models. The animation lacks quite a bit, which is very much noticed when you jump. The same music bits and music stings are present way too often, with some generic, not to mention overly weak sound effects across the board. Never at any point do you feel that your blows are making an impact, thanks to the unusual sounds your blows make.

Finally, while battery backup saving started to become the norm during the SNES days, why, oh why is the password system so tedious? This isn’t River City Ransom blasphemy, where you had what seemed like dozens of characters you had to fill in. But what River City Ransom and Ultimate Fighter share in the password department are the fatuous additions of semicolons, apostrophes and other characters that did not feature letters or numbers. Seriously, it shouldn’t be rocket science to program a password system that’s brief and elementary. Indiana Jones’ Greatest Adventures had just that — a four character password system that worked effortlessly. Why couldn’t other companies adopt such a system? Instead, Ultimate Fighter gives you this –
Outside the misleading title, Ultimate Fighter is nothing more than an extremely shallow 2D beat ‘em up game, with little in the way of innovation, genius, entertainment and integrity. If you want a 2D beat ‘em up title done right, by all means check out Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers on the Super Nintendo, where at least the redundant enemy character models are augmented with the fact that each different color Putty will attack differently. Ultimate Fighter is a tremendous failure as a fighting title, and a substandard 2D beat ‘em up title.

Rating: 3.5

Hot off the heels of THQ’s success with the UFC franchise, EA has entered the octagon, with their own mixed martial arts offering, EA MMA. Utilizing a Strikeforce licensing, EA MMA is attempting to take a piece of that MMA gaming pie with characters in the MMA world outside of the UFC, with Randy Couture as the exception. Stars such as Fedor and Bobby Lashley are among a roster that is reportedly going to feature several dozen fighters from several different weight classes.

The overall presentation is very reminiscent of the UFC Undisputed titles on the market today, with the additions of longer entrances and music accompanying each fighter. Announcing, introductions, visuals and everything else outside the controls are very familiar if you spent any time with THQ’s offering. The level of detail is just as astounding as UFC Undispited, with some pretty impressive sweat physics and implimentaion as a whole.

Our tale of the tape, sponsored by Rockstar energy drink!

With regards to the controls, fisticuffs are based off the right analog, which feels a bit like Fight Night. You can’t just randomly grapple your opponent and mash the buttons to get a takedown; if you don’t strategically plan out when to dive head first towards them, you will be met with a knee to the mouth. Grappling and reversals are based off X/O for the PlayStation 3, and A/B for the Xbox 360. It will take some time to get used to if you’re jumping from Undisputed to EA MMA, but it’s not a monumental task by any means.

The early glimpse of EA MMA is quite promising. If EA can keep grapple mechanics simple enough throughout, with the complex layer thrown in, we may have a serious challenge for the MMA crown in the world of video gaming. With a creation mode coming, online play, several dozen fighters as well as a gameplay structure that’s coming together rather well, EA MMA looks to pound $60 out of your wallet come mid October for the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360. Until then, check out some screenshots of this hotly anticipated title:

Thiago Alves VS George “Rush” St Pierre

To summarize this fight from rounds 1-5 it all consisted of George St. Pierre Taking alves down with such pure ease and no difficulty whatsoever. To be truthfully honest Alves wasn’t ready for this fight. Alves needs to go back to his camp in brazil again and leave sean sherks camp since alot of their focus is Striking and some wrestling. Alves did not portray ANY wrestling at all. GSP hurt his groin in the middle of round 3 but was able to win the fight

50 – 45

50 – 44

50 – 45

Now the main event Was obviously Frank Mir VS Brock Lesnar

To be truthfully honest this fight was BEYOND 100 OUNCES OF BULLSHIT. Brock lesnar used alot of pussy and shitty methods to win this fight. In both rounds he constantly choked Mir with his hand and shoving his thumb into mir’s adams apple and also threw several punches to the back of mir’s head as well… I dont even wanna review this fight to be truthfully honest. I think this fight should never be mentioned in the history of UFC. So this fight was the most purest trash of the night. Brock is just LUCKY that shane carwin is still new to the sport cause carwin will drop lesnar like a bad habit I GAURANTEE IT

John Fitch VS Paulo Thiago

Round 1

Both fighters throwing punches and some kicks lightly. Fitch abusing the leg of Thiago. and thiago lands a full in guillotine and fitch stays calm and throws punches to the body. Fitch slowly passes and thiago switches the guillotine to a darce choke. Fitch is holding onto the legs of Thiago. Fitch escapes and mounts thiago. Thiago rolls to a Kimura and fitch manages to get the back of Thiago. Fitch begins working a kimura from the crucifix position. End of round 1

Round 2

Fitch lands a right hand and clinches with thiago. Fitch scores a takedown and lands a punch to Thiago. Fitch attempts to pass and falls into a guillotine by thiago. Fitch easily pops up and gets the back of Thiago. Fitch bucks Thiago up and hits him with a knee and slams Thiago to the canvas. Fitch works thiago’s Back and has one hook in and begins controlling Thiago’s arm. Fitch flattens out Thiago and works for the back mount again. End of round 2

Round 3

Fitch gets a takedown off thiago and works the face of Thiago. Fitch gets the back of thiago and thiago stands up and lands on the body of fitch and fitch able to hold on. Thiago attempts another choke and Fitch is able to secure the leg and control thiago. Fitch is able to hammer away at the face of Thiago and lands the traingle body lock and starts beating up Thiago and secures a victory by unanimous decision

Nonetheless a good pay per view for the record books now excuse me while i go read Forrest Griffins “The Zen and the art of Hand to face combat”

Hey what’s up CLgamer guys it’s the Beast Machine himself giving you some updates on life and MMA and gaming altogether.

MMA News

After Jose Conseco Lost to MMA giant Hong Man Choi in the recent DREAM MMA event, Shaq alled out Hong Man Choi for a fight.

UFC 99 was an okay event…pretty boring and lots of robberies that night. Honestly I’d rather not rant and talk about this event or the fighters in general. All i can possibly say Caol Uno was robbed of his victory. Big props to Velazques for controlling Chieck Kongo after getting getting rocked several times. Great returning victory to Cro Cop. Definitely can’t wait for UFC 100

The Ultimate fighter: This was probably the WORST season yet. Team USA looked like complete Horse crap this time around and the UK pretty much RAPED the US this season. Just a message to Dana white & Dan Henderson: Make sure when choosing fighters to enter the ultimate fighter MAKE SURE THEY CAN ACTUALLY FIGHT AND NOT P&#$Y OUT DURING THEIR FIGHTS. WE NEED FIGHTERS NOT GIRL SCOUTS!!!

Recently in affliction Tim the maniac Sylvia was KO’ed By Ray Mercer the man who handed Kimbo slice his first victory in MMA Leaving Sylvia Kicked out of the Affliction organization.

Bobby Lashley is doing a fantastic Job after his recent submission victory against Mike Cook.

<object width=”425″ height=”344″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/hHwIqD3bRPk&hl=en&fs=1&”></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/hHwIqD3bRPk&hl=en&fs=1&” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true” width=”425″ height=”344″></embed></object>

Video Gaming.

I’ve been playing a lot of SFIV recently trying to evolve into something in that game and running Ryu just like the older SF games I’ve played since EVERYONE i know plays with ken. I also have been watching matches of diago in SF4 to learn more mind games and frame advantage and i think I’m doing okay…I just need more ppl to play against and learn more mind games.

I managed to score a copy of Let’s Tap for the wii… This is probably one of the most creative games I’ve played in a LONG time..

<object width=”560″ height=”340″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/_4bFvZGweUg&hl=en&fs=1&”></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/_4bFvZGweUg&hl=en&fs=1&” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true” width=”560″ height=”340″></embed></object>

I highly recommend it!!

Being that im a vintage video game collector I managed to score a Famicom on ebay a few weeks ago and it got here last week. All i had for it was Super Mario bros (obviously) and yesterday my copy of WagyanLand 2 came in… Lotsa fun ^_^

I personally have wanted to plan a retro night at Play n Trade sometime this/next month before i head out to japan. Just to hang out with new ppl and bring out the inner child in everyone… I mean lets face it Up until the xbox console gaming wasn’t about competition it was more about Having fun and goin’ crazy with friends.I wouldn’t mind seeing Jason , Phire , Myself , and Jess playing the simpsons arcade version , vigilante , sunset riders , or Teenage Mutant ninja turtles turtles in time…OR EVEN…SPIDERMAN!!!.. THAT WOULD BE GODLIKE!!!

If anyone want’s to contribute some idea’s please feel free to do so…
Oh and BTW… GHOSTBUSTERS IS GODLIKE

What’s up MMA goers it’s yours truly BeAsT giving you a review for the newest THQ fighting game title UFC 2009 Undisputed. Now from the demo’s release I thought it was gonna be garbage…In my honest and humble opinion IT IS!

Striking

The striking is OKAY nothing fantastic or amazing… Superman punches , Weaving Punches , High kicks spinning back fists. It’s there… But in real life when both fighters are measured properly there should be NO WAY an individual should get knocked out by a long ranged jab. another thing i would like to add is the fact that EVERY MMA FIGHTER IN THE INDUSTRY DOES NOT GET KNOCKED OUT BY A BLUNT F*$&ING JAB WHICH LOOKS LIKE HORSE S*$T The striking game in my opinion gets a 2 out of 10 THQ messed up BIG TIME with the striking..

grappling

The grappling is honestly one of the most innovative add ons and they ACTUALLY TOOK TIME TO APPRECIATE THE GROUND GAME!!! Speaking as a student who takes up Brazilian Ju-jitsu , Judo , and greco roman wrestling its all there… My only dislike is the fact that there’s a lack of game such as back control and side control because there are a HUGE number of submissions that can be performed from Full guard , side control , full mount….What sucks even more is the fact that you cant counter while your KO/Stunned…a real Grappler would be able to recover and sweep the person delivering rabid punches. I’m giving the grappling a 6 because it can be improved GREATLY.

Create a character

This probably gave the game the MOST life EVER. This alone deserves a 8 because the names and tattoo’s suck because one should be able to control the height and width of the tattoo they want.

Online play

This part pisses me off to all hell and im talking AVGN status. AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL XBOX LIVE PLAYERS MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD CONNECTION WHILE PLAYING OR ELSE YOU WILL GET DICKED SIDEWAYS!!! After playing about 10 matches I lost half of them due to HORRIBLE connections…. Since when does stuttering while throwing a punch and then magically getting knocked out by a whiffed high kick make logical sense? This is worse then an R.L.Stine book this part gets a .5 out of 10

The main reason why i picked up the game to begin with was to knock out Brock Lesnar with Brendon Vera honestly and of course to play as Shane Carwin (DLC by fall) and of course the two extra fighters (Efrain Escuadero and Ryan Bader).

Unless your a UFC fanatic and you actually like some of the fighters…I’d recommend it…But this game definitely needs some fucking work..

The next major UFC event is this coming Saturday May 23rd Ill be sure to have SF4 , UFC 09 , Rock band and more for free play and of course the main event for this Saturday is Lyoto Machida VS the current Light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans!!

Before starting this post I would like to dedicate this post to Helio Gracie 1913-2009. This man was one of the original Masters of Brazilian Ju-jitsu. With a heart of gold and fighting spirit of a lion this master will forever be in the heart of those who practice Brazilian ju-jitsu. May he rest in peace.

This time around im gonna sum up last Saturday’s Pay per View UFC 94 The main event being George St Pierre VS BJ Penn. This high end rivalry began in 2006 when GSP beat Penn by a decision and Penn felt he did more (meanwhile in round 1 he did fantastic , poked him in the eye and was destroyed in round 2 and 3…so much for doing work)

The line up of fights were as followed

Clay Guida vs Nate Diaz

Karo Parysian VS Dong Hyun Kim

Jon Jones (NEW YORK) vs Stephan Bonnar (Ultimate Fighter season 1)

Lyoto Machida vs Thiago Silva

George St. Pierre (main event)

In the Guida vs Diaz fight it consisted of mass striking exchanges. Diaz clearly had the reach advantage but as far as wrestling went guida had complete control of the match. Diaz pretty much threw a great number of punches and a few takedown attempts but then being forced onto his back by guida. Throwing punches applying pressure and taking the fight to diaz on the ground. Guida SLAMMED the life out of diaz towards the end of the round. Diaz attemped a submission attempt but failed. In round 2 it was all control on the ground. Nate diaz again tried to submit guida but failed in the takedown game. In round 3 nothing but punch exchanging and clinching. Guida scored a sick takedown and was able to get control of Diaz leg utilizing his wrestling techniques. With an excessive amount of aggresion and active control Guida won this match with a decision win

Matchup 2 was Parisyan Vs DHK.. PLEASE TAKE NOTE DHK IS A SICK JUDO-KA (VERY GOOD JUDO MARTIAL ARTIST) and parysian is definitely one himself but DHK DEMOLISHED parisyan. Parisyan managed to get DHK into the corner but DHK was able to throw Parisyan into Guard and eventually took his back. DHK became a monkey and was able to hold onto Parisyan’s back and land a bunch of punches. Parisyan tried to roll DHK off but failed miserably. Parisyan finally was able to get DHK on his back and throw punches to the body of DHK. DHK was able to get up and control Parisyans back AGAIN. A back and forth match for round 1 DHK scored a sick Triangle against Pariyan but Parisyan was luckily able to get out of the submission attempt.

Round 2 – Striking exchanges through out the opening seconds. DHK Controls parisyan against the cage and ended up on his back after a judo toss attempt and Parisyan attempted a kimura from North and south position but failed to keep the lock in. Parisyan Caught DHK’s back with one arm hooked in DHK stands up back into a clinch with parisyan. Towards the end of the round Parisyan was able to finish off with a good exchange.

Round 3 – Striking and of course the clinch for both fighters. DHK takes parisyan down with a great Judo toss and when attempting to get up he threw an illegal kick to the face of DHK. Standing up Parisyan tries to take down DHK but fails and DHK clinches up with parisyan. Towards the end of the round Parisyan trips DHK with a leg trip and DHK was able to Control the match and DHK wins by decision.

Jones vs Bonner in my opinion Jones completely Dominated Bonner hands down. Jones who is from rochester NY has ALOT of potential and by defeating Bonner how he did proved everything. in round 1 Jones kept baiting bonner in with BS punches and kicks. Eventually getting serious and taking down and tossing bonner around like a ragdoll and tossing tremendous knees to bonners body. at this point even me and my training buddies said “This guy must know some type of aikido to be tossing bonner around like this”.. Honestly I cant even describe this fight except for SLAUGHTER. Jones did a great job controlling , Ground and pounding , submission attempts , and tossing bonner around like the hunk of garbage he is.

Lyoto Machida vs Thiago Silva- In round 1 it consisted of good exchanges of punches and kicks but when Silva was taken down machida got back up to bait silva in. Machida threw a vicious knee and a BIG left hand which put silva down. Machida keeping silva on the ground and controlling him with his ju-jitsu machida stood back up and scored a few leg kicks as Silva waited on his back for machida to attack. Machida was able to get silva in a clinch and a minor exchange of punches until the round was about to finish Machida throws silva off him with a trip and puts the exclamation mark with a HUGE right hand while silva was on the ground Knocking out Silva’s soul out of his body and out of the arena INSANE Finishing knockout

Penn vs GSP

As far as this fight went I have never seen BJ penn get dominated as much as he did in this fight. Penn should never fight in this weight class again after this fight.

Round 1 – The majority of the fight was in a standing clinch with both fighters exchanging knees back and forth GSP attempted a single leg but penn was able to avoid the takedown with his ju-jitsu practice. GSP exchanged some punches with Penn ending the first round. GSP winning the first round

Round 2 – the clinching was in GSP’s favor with his muaythai and ju-jitsu altogether. GSP scored a few vicious elbows to penn’s face and scored a sick takedown off the cage . GSP continues his assault with vicious punches and elbows and penn tries to rubber guard against GSP’s assault and receives a HUGE right hand from GSP. Eventually GSP gets side control of penn and throws punches and keeps penn in a 2 quarter stack (Head is held by one arm as the other is used to smother your breathing pattern) GSP continues scoring HUGE punches which exhausts penn to very little activity during the fight and him being on the floor. GSP continues his assault in the 2nd round throwing insane punches from all weird angles and cuts BJ penn under the eye. Round 3 is where GSP continues the SAME ASSAULT against penn. GSP opens up the wound on Penn’s eye and penn almost scores a take down trying to control GSP against the cage but fails. GSP continues throwing knees in the clinch. GSP takes BJ penn down and ends the round with punches to win all 3 out of 5 rounds so far.

Round 4 – GSP catches penn in side control and begins his assault throwing punches just like in rounds 1 – 3 same result and elbows and everything else PENN GETS DESTROYED in this round. GSP gets up and punches the cage (in my opinion i have NEVER seen GSP this angry)

Is there a round 5? ……………NO GSP WINS !!!! BJ Penn is unable to fight and throws in the towel.

Now alot of people ask if GSP cheated in the fight. The answer is no. When you secure side control on your opponent in the UFC you are allowed to throw 3 o’ clock (horizontal) elbows and punches of your choice as long as it doesn’t hit the ear. GSP in this fight was able to destroy BJ Penn’s will in this fight.. great fight to GSP and yet another Marvelous night in the UFC Book

~Be Sure to come back when i review more upcoming UFC and other events and thanks for checking in~
