How did I fare ? Well I had some good runs but due to the lack of practice I dropped links that would have sealed the deal. I also didn’t have any legit El Fuerte match up experience.  So that match up was an uphill for me. The next tournament is the 26th of this month. Hope to see you guys turn out.

Phantasy Star Online

Phantasy Star Online was what got me into online gaming. I put so many hours on my Dreamcast (and every other console that offered PSO) that it wasn’t funny. After a few years, the Dreamcast version’s servers degenerated to hacker/spambot heaven, so I decided to switch to the Gamecube version, and then finally the Xbox version. Eventually all every PSO server shut down, and I sad faced. Recently a buddy of mine shared this link with me: Play Any Version of PSO Online. I shouldn’t have to explain how awesome this is!

Star Wars Galaxies

Technically Star Wars Galaxies hasn’t been taken down yet. Instead, Sony Online Entertainment decided to take out everything that set it apart from MMOs, and throw them in the garbage. What resulted is World Of Warcraft, just set a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.  The current iteration of SWG is nothing at all like it was when it originally launched, and this move caused TONS of players to cancel their accounts.

I was one of those players. I was so sad to see this amazingly immersive MMO stripped of its magic that I swore off MMOs for quite a while.  About a year and a half ago I found out about the Star Wars Galaxy Emulator Project. SWGEmu is a Star Wars Galaxies emulator that is being coded from the ground up. While it is completely playable in its current state, SWGEmu is still missing some of SWG’s best features. If it weren’t for a lazy (and sometimes shady) dev crew, the emulator would be a completeand awesome recreation of SWG. Even though its incomplete, I still suggest anyone that has even a remote interest in MMOs check it out. While you’re at it, ask around for a Twi’lek named Mage; Maybe she’ll let you in my old guild!

Halo 2

Halo 2 lost its online support with Xbox Live, but there is still hope! There are a few projects working on emulated servers for Halo 2, but due to possible legal repercussions, I can not link to them. A quick google search should return results for those that still NEED to play it.

Ok, this list is a bit short, I know. I had a few more in mind, but unfortunately these projects have either been scrapped or shut down. Fear not! I will update the list as I go.

According to statistics collected from the Nintendo Channel by Kotaku, Jillian Michaels’ Fitness Ultimatum 2009 is the least played (thus the worst) game on the Wii. I can’t say that I’m surprised. Runners up for this prestigious title include M&M’s Kart Racing and Furu Furu Park, whatever that is. All three games share under three hours of play time per Wii. Honestly though, I don’t know what’s sadder: The fact that Jillian got a sequel, or that her game is only as popular as a $10 licensed Kart racer.

Shortly after the game’s release (maybe like a day or so) something magical happened. The game was fine. This was either through a side patch or people going back to single player. The game allowed you to do the simple things that you couldn’t do before such as modify your character in the outfitter, or see your horse AND your guns. However some of the mission bugs did decide to show up.

Yep so there’s no way to complete the mission. So when you’re stuck with a stage coach what do you do? That’s right a stage coach drive by.

The spawns still need to be fixed and there are some mission bugs but that’s something that will probably be hammered out in a couple of days or so. The actual game types still work which is good. It’s just there’s something about that free roam. I guess they call it the west for a reason.

My earlier post, Pizza Time, had a mixture of excitement, and a dose of skepticism. After all, Turtles in Time is a beloved game, both the Arcade version and the SNES home conversion. I booted up the trial (read: unpaid for) version of the game and took it for a spin.

What happened?

After an admittedly stylish and well done rendition of the original intro, I jumped in. The artwork is nice and high res, the title song was different, and I sensed nothing amiss. Selecting my favorite Turtle also proved to be a non issue, and the power ratings adorning each turtle were a nice touch as well, moving the selection past being more than a (mostly) aesthetic affair. The announcement of “Big Apple, 3 AM” also did much to ease my concern that perhaps, this was done to form.

Then the game itself started.

What happened exactly?

I had my share of skepticism with the new art direction for the game ever since I saw it in screenshots, but seeing it in motion is something else entirely. The game looks flat. SNK set out to make a point with The King of Fighters XII that NOTHING can replace good old fashioned sprite art when the chips are down, and this game’s visuals unintentionally solidify this fact. The colors no longer pop, the stage itself has lost its cartoonish charm, and the overall package left a dry taste in my mouth. Gone are each turtle’s signature animations, gone are the incompetent gaits of the foot soldiers, gone are the speech bubbles and general tomfoolery that truly made you feel like you were playing a TMNT comic. Even the meaty, screen shaking effects brought on by your hits and slams are all but gone here, and it contributes to the flat feeling the visuals bring about. Things are happening on screen, foot soldiers are being beat down, but it’s hard to care when every attack seems like it was done with a feather touch.

You can tell they were trying to save it a bit with the cartoonish “THWACK” effects and comic style explosions, but they don’t help the game’s case, they only solidify that perhaps this should’ve been done entirely in high res 2D. It’s a pipe dream however, because the reality is that there is no way Ubisoft would’ve ever committed that much effort to a downloadable title.

It isn’t all terrible though. The 3D visuals are slick, and certain things do pop, such as Krang’s robot coming from the shadows to zap the stage, and small touches like Baxter Stockman breaking the fourth wall by flying up to the screen and laughing at the player before powering up, do well to signal that they wanted to at least retain the charm of the original.

The music is less forgivable though. If ever there were a case for a game’s soundtrack, and just how integral it is for the overall feel of a game, this is the most recent shining example. Anyone who has come within even breathing distance of the game knows how excellent the soundtrack was, and diehards can recall a theme off the top of their head with frightening accuracy. This is how beloved the soundtrack of Turtles in Time was. I expected at the very least, if not the original tunes, an arranged or remixed version of the original music. For them to not even bother remixing, but to REPLACE the entire soundtrack begs the question of why they bothered calling it a remake at all. What’s on play here is not only frighteningly generic, but it changes the tone of the game as well from whimsical to off puttingly serious at times. The sound effects are also flat as well. Explosions don’t pop, impacts don’t even sound half as meaty as the 16 bit home version, and voices sound muted, though at the very least, the voices of some the characters and enemies somewhat emulate the original well.

Gameplay is the only area where things were consistent and improved. While the original moveset is more or less intact, making it easy to jump in and have fun, the one flaw that was improved over the original is depth perception. Because the game is in full 3D this time, there are no longer planes of movement to contend with. Fighting foot soldiers, not to mention bosses feels much more natural because of this, and the game is much better off because of it. This comes in handy especially during multiplayer with 4 other people, where the deluge of thwacks, foot soldiers and flying turtles can create a confusing scene. Speaking of the multiplayer, I’m also pleased to report that it’s mostly lag free, and I had no trouble getting into matches.

You’ll find that most of my problems stem from the lofty expectations I had for the game reputation wise. Despite the faults on display though, I still want the game and would encourage others to play, especially in multiplayer. It is a solid beat-em-up and there is much fun to be had while playing, it just isn’t what Turtles in Time used to be. Taking this title on its own merits, it’s very easy to enjoy, and it’s admittedly the most solid TMNT game I’ve played in years. Playing it a bit longer did help it grow on me, but I didn’t forget I was having the most fun when I put aside my desire for a true remake and took it as is.

At the end of the day though, this game was supposed to live up to the legacy of the original, and it falls short of that mark. It’s not so much a remake as it is a reimagining, and for them to advertise it as the former instead of the latter is where the majority of the disappointment lies, especially as a fan.
Whether or not you’re willing to discard that notion and have a bit of fun anyway is up to you. If you’re a newcomer, you have even less to worry about.

Yeah I finally got my second TE so now i can roll around naked on the floor with them. Sorta like that scene in Indecent Proposal where Woody Harrelson is having sex with Demi Moore all over the money that she got for boinking Robert Redford. I should have gotten it for ps3 but i have 2 360 ones go figure.

I’ve been working on my Viper. I have come a long way from those humble videos of me in japan in 08. It’s just a matter of getting one more combo down and I think she’s ready. In the main time i’ve been running lot of Cammy. I should practice her but I go on know how. Justin keeps telling me to quit my job and I ask him would the good Lord Combo Jesus provide? He chuckles, but shit I my fight money. Oh in case you’ve been living on another planet or just don’t care, I’ll tell you this anyway. Capcom released the SF4 patch/update. It basically provides a ranking system based on how you do. What happened to battle points? I don’t know I felt it was a fine system i guess. Anyway the update gave Fei Long the ability to travel through fireballs with his chicken wing (the name escapes me at the moment) move. It gains a noticble start up but it’s not bad. You can’t infinite it free anymore it seems. Also Zangief’s lariat appears to be sweepable now. I am counting down the days till the release of DeeJay and T.Hawk and that’s when I stop playing.

My friend Rich(Berber) has brought this game to my attention. With a lack of arcade style drifting easily available to the masses. This game sorta fills the Initial D kick I’ve been on these past few days. The urge to drift and drive has been welling up inside me. Plus I’ve been listening to tons of eurobeat and I am not toos ure as to why. Outrun is the basic arcade Outrun but just redone that’s it. They’ve added some new stuff and it’s sure to be a great way to kill time between invites, getting ready to leave or just the urge to drift.

Onechanbara, it’s not a new game. People seem to hate this game. I like it. It’s an honest tit game. It’s just like Queens Blade the honest tit anime.

I’ll talk more about the stuff i’m playing later on in some vintage posts.. I just wanted to shoot you guys some updates. We’ll be trying some new stuff out soon. Justin’s in France, doing what? Only the Euros know.

Hey guys and gals I know the sinsation article is kinda late but we have been busy with lots of other stuff. The event which was held in Fairfax Va was great and many people came out to enjoy Street Fighter 4 which was sponsored by Perfect Sin who is also the co-founder of Team Kapital. The event consist of many tournaments such as Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Street Fighter 3rd Strike, Guilty Gear Accent Core, HD Remix , and of course Street Fighter 4. There were special exhibitions events such as the 2v2 event such as Iloveujoe/Demon Hyo vs Gootecks/Combofiend, A first to 7 match with Gootecks vs Marn and another first to 7 with Justin Wong vs Combofiend. The Iloveujoe team clutched the win from the west coast army, which lead the east coast believe that “we also can compete” The west coast player, Gootecks answered our statement by destroying Team Kapital member, Marn in the first to 7. Score was 7-1. That was a ouch that was heard all over the hotel. Now the last exhibition event was Justin Wong vs Combofiend. It was very convincing, it could’ve went either way, but the Combo master himself clutched it out with his combo friendly Balrog over Justin’s arsenal of characters such as Chun Li, Guile, and Akuma. Score was 7-5. Now it became 2-1 West Coast. Only thing we could do now is win the touraments which was held at Sinsation. In the Tatsunoko vs Capcom tourney, Combofiend was eliminated early and the finals came down between the two Kapital members, Justin Wong vs Marn. Justin clutched out the win with his Jun/Chun team over the “Unstoppable Team” of Karas/Morrigan. Everyone was going crazy over the match. The Street Fighter 3rd Strike tourney, everyone was getting wrecked by the WC Duo and the only person to stop their tracks was Justin Wong. His Chun Li wrecked everything that the Gooteck/Combo team possibly thought off. In the HD Remix tourney, no one from the West made top 5 and also in GGXX, none of them did either. In the main tourney of Street Fighter 4, the WC duo showed EC why they were a threat. Combofiend lost to Marn and Justin Wong but the lone Gootecks defeated Justin Wong and iloveujoe. It just tells the East Coast that when the next encounter happens in SF4, Team Kapital and other members of the East Coast community will be ready!!!!!

Kinda funny the way I ended up involved with volunteering at Comicon, which eventually lead me to you fine people. Walked into Play n Trade and they were like come help out at the coolest thing ever next weekend. So naturally I was like Heck YES!! I was at Comicon the whole weekend and I was never bored. There was so much shit going on at all times and I loved it. The only thing that sucked was you could easily drop 225$ on a rare only release in Japan, light-up, Iron Man figure. Or in my case spend tons of money on little tiny things like a mini figure of Tifa Lockheart. The point I’m trying to make here is that I was free. Free to be my geekish self. For the first two days I wore the basic t-shirt and jeans. Day one was my Star Wars shirt that got some attention and Day two was Snoopy. But nothing compared to Sunday. I got a whole lot of attention and wandering eyes on Sunday when I put my Halloween costume to use one more time and be Sexy Girl Robin (aka Stephanie, Spoiler). I think the permanent camera flash in my eye really expresses how much people liked my costume. Overall Comicon was kick ass and it definitely opened many opportunities and I made many new friends while bonding on what we do best – geeking it out. Peace.

Its me Jago (Andre) i am here reflecting on my experience. So let me begin by saying it was one of the most fun experiences i have ever had in my life, we practically lived like kings for 2 days thanks to my friend Matt Aka Hol Dat who gave me room and board in the Marriott hotel where the event took place in.
In the morning we had had a breakfast buffet to gear up for the tourney, then we went back to the room to take our “complementary showers”, after that i headed down to the rooms where they were holding the tourneys, everything was setup well, and this was honestly my actual first major tourney where i entered at least 4 different games, so i was being called back and forth going from game to game, it gets mentally straining so i give alot of props to players who go out there and place high in multiple games.
