Not much later after a leaked image of Mass Effect 3′s collectors edition containing confirmation of a multiplayer component, Bio Ware pops the lid on it’s details along with co-op gameplay. Personally when I got wind of any multiplayer whatsoever being added to Mass Effect, I was immediately fearing for a lack or lesser amount of dedication given to the single player experience. The Mass Effect trilogy thrives off of a uniquely deep and thorough campaign in which every single decision you make from your battle actions to your dialogue in conversations could effect your experience short and long term, hence the name.

Thankfully a lot of personal fears have been laid to rest as there are actually two separate teams working on the single player and multiplayer modes. In addition, there will be no plans for any competitive modes since that would take away from the ultimate goal of what Bio Ware is looking to accomplish with multiplayer. Players will be able to assist others in optional missions that ultimately do effect the story and universe just as any other single player mission would along with the ability to create and customize their own multiplayer characters strictly for these joint missions. The expected selection of races range from the currently existing Asari, Human, Turian, Krogan and more including possible new races perhaps.

The new co-operative mode has been dubbed Mass Effect 3: Galaxy At War. GAW contains a “Galactic Readiness” meter which indicates the players level of preparation for the games final battle. Participating in these co-operative missions will improve your overall readiness until you see fit to engaged in this seemingly epic conclusion. Details on weather or not this progression will only effect the host or both players evenly has not been released yet.
