365//365: Day 182 – Ghostbusters: The Video Game (360) [PP]

07.01.2010

Old school gamers remember the joys and aggravations of Ghostbusters, on one of the plethora of platforms it was featured on. For years, it was the only worthwhile, though heavily flawed, Ghostbusters video game. That is until the unofficial sequel to Ghosbusters 2 was released on the Xbox 360, aptly titled Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis had a minor hand in the script, which unfolds as creatively and engaging as an actual Ghostbusters movie. While the entire cast from the earlier installments are featured (including Ernie “why couldn’t I be in the other Ghostbusters games” Hudson, you don’t play as them. You’ll play as a rookie Ghostbuster, following along with the gang throughout a city with some extensive visual detail in every location you visit, with familiar sound effects and theme music guiding you through each area. The voice acting across the board is surprisingly solid, emulating the feeling that this is the third Ghostbusters movie. The major handicaps to your ghostbusting experience is, in fact, the length of your adventure, and  the ghostbusting and controls overall. You can run through this game in under six hours, if you really push it. While it takes a bit to get used to the art of capturing ghosts, the controls overall are a bit too sluggish. You can argue that their proton packs weigh them down, but that’s just a cop out. Ghostbusters: The Video Game is more reserved for a weekend rental than a full price purchase. While the experience is something you’ll be talking about days after the fact, it lacks the replay value and incentives to come back after your initial run, unlike the blockbuster movies.

Busting will make YOU feel good as well....until the game is completed, which won't take long unfortunately.

Rating: 7.5
