Pre-E3: Microsoft’s new XBOX, Natal now the Kinect

As seen on a facebook advertisement, MS will be releasing a new 360 and it will come with a 250 GB hard drive. Which is kind of useless since there is USB storage device support now. There was also a leak of the hardware inside the 360, which looks like it will now have a much bigger fan, a welcome feature for those of us who have suffered a RROD due to cracked solder. It also seems to be toting a built in wifi adapter which is something the 360 has desperately needed as the current usb ones can run you $50. What we can expect is that this new console will not be cheaper than what is out now, hopefully we see a considerable price drop on arcades and elites.

Microsoft has also re-named Natal to Kinect, making a pun on Kinetics. This new device is a series of motion sensing cameras that will let you play a video game with your whole body, which is a 1up on the Wii mote and the Move because they only let you use your hands. I am waiting for a game that combines all the famous Japanese youtube dances, so now everyone can learn! There you go developers, that’s friggin’ gold right there. One of the new release games is called Kinectimals which will let you train and raise your own virtual pet, with up to 40 different kinds. It will also have an obligatory sports game, like the wii, and some other uninteresting stuff. That doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement though, it will be interesting to see if people take this new technology in the right direction.

I live out in Seattle, Washington and work in the gaming industry. Gaming and I have a casual relationship right now, as I was big on MMOs for many years. I won't hesitate to get competitive though! I'm also a fan of anime and most things nerdy. I'd rather watch the History and Discovery channel more than anything else when I'm in front of the TV! Back in the day I jumped from Super Nintendo, to Dreamcast, to the original XBOX. By most gamer's standards I was deprived. High school was the first time I really got serious about games when a friend of mine got me in to Ragnarok Online. From there I jumped to L2 and FFXI. Now I play many genres and styles of games, and am nerdier than ever!

“Which is kind of useless since there is USB storage device support now”

Entirely sure there’s a max of 16gb of data stored for USB storage devices on the 360 for this exact reason bro.

They didn’t “re-name” it to Kinect, they just announced the official name for a project code-named Natal. Also I’m pretty sure the “pun” is using the latin root “kine” (motion, movement) + “connect”.

Good stuff, thanks for the info. I haven’t been on my 360 much since I got a PS3 (aww) so I didn’t check on the max for a USB. That’s lame though. =(

The Slim looks so damn sexy! I gotta bribe someone at MS booth to gimme one, just because! Dunno what to make of Kinect still but I’ll see what else I can learn about it. Sounded a bit intriguing, though I dunno whether it’ll change the way I play games forever.

Whoa! This blog looks exactly like my old one! It’s on a entirely different subject but it has pretty much the same page layout and design. Outstanding choice of colors!
