After my combined three hours of waiting in lines to experience The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and the Nintendo 3DS, I stopped by a couple of different Nintendo game stations. My last stop in their section was at GoldenEye 007, the reboot of sort of Rare’s console FPS phenomenon on the Nintendo 64. I only had a few minutes of playtime with this title, though the limited glimpse I had showed enough promise to warrant an ongoing interest in how things are developed further.
The multiplayer demo I had a brief hand in utilized the Nintendo Classic Controller, with a rather fluid control system. Movement seemed quite reminiscent of Rare’s Nintendo 64 offering, from movement speed to camera panning. Visually, it seemed on par with the N64 build as well, though if that’s a praise or a detraction, it’s hard to say at this point in time. It was hard to make out the audio with all of the demos going off with various volume setting, though the gun-play sounds like a faithful representation of what they were intending to be. The weapon selection available on the demo was a bit on the underwhelming side, with a bit too much of a recoil on the weaponry available. The action was engaging, and even with the extremely limited time I had on the game, it felt exciting enough for me to keep my interest piqued soon after playing.
If the recoil can be reduced and the rest of the package remain as cohesive, GoldenEye’s re-imagining might see a fruitful reality. Slated for a November 2010 release, we won’t have to wait much longer to get our hands on this one. Multiplayer and single player specifics are not available to us at this time, though we have a few pictures of the game in action for you to peer over:
