E3 (#E3) Reflections – Hard Corps Rising

06.27.2010

What would happen if the gameplay of Contra and the art of Guilty Gear (BlazBlue as well) had a baby? It would be Hard Corps Rising from Konami. I’ve mentioned this in a previous post but this game is so smooth, uncommonly smooth in fact. The build was not at 100% but the gameplay was top notch. The game features two modes. One is similar to the classic Contra we know and love. The other mode is a mode that features a life bar. It feels like cheating but it does help. I found myself just staring at the animations of the enemies on screen.

Some of the classic guns return from the original game such as the spread (best gun ever) and flame thrower (worst gun ever). I found myself having flash backs to the original Contra on Nintendo. I was spamming spread shot while crouching and hanging to the middle of the screen to ensure maximum spread. A featured that was added was air dashing. It’s so good to have that extra burst of speed to get away from those bullets.

Also included in the Rising mode is the feature to train and level their soldier and purchase power-up items. Which will be fun when you take to the streets with your friends. Add-on content includes characters (three additional characters), wallpapers, gamertag pictures and avatar outfits.
