It’s always a risky venture to tweak an established fighting games characters and gameplay, but that was only one of two things that were touched up in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix. The visible difference comes in the drop dead gorgeous visual remake, which also take advantage of HDTV technology. With the massive visual remake though, came a nearly untouched transfer of accurate animation, with no additional frames added in, so there won’t be any extra wait times during attacks, due to new frames added in. There were some character balancing that transpired, although certain characters such as E. Honda and Dee Jay feel noticeably buffed up, with most every other fighter not feeling as tweaked or changed around in a profound manner. The single player feels a bit easier than the original release of years past, which still remains one of the more challenging solo experiences in the franchise. The addition of online play helps lengthen the experience considerably, and for the most part, games are silky smooth. Probably the biggest annoyance comes from how fast the typical round lasts, which isn’t very long, thanks to a high damage scale across the board. Not necessarily a major blow, though I’d much prefer to keep my matches as the best of three rounds and not the best of five, just for match longevity sakes. An excellent alternative to playing Suer Street Fighter 4 online with a more than fair price point, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix is more than worth the price of admission, and will keep you coming back for more for a long time to come.
