Super Mario Galaxy 2 @ Nintendo World

So I met up with Age Velez and we went to Nintendo World for a private event featuring Super Mario Galaxy 2. Nintendo World is always a pleasant venue for an event and today was no exception. They set up all the Wiis in the store with SMG2 (no not small machine gun 2) and they had Nintendo DS’ set up with games I couldn’t make out because my eyesight is terrible.

Mario made an appearance along with the voice actor of Mario, which was an older gentlemen. Did he do the voice? Yes he did and let me tell you once you see where Mario’s voice comes from you’re going to not be the same ever. It’s impressive that he is able to keep up with his line of work. The swag they gave away included astronaut food (strawberries, ice cream, and tang), a cool t-shirt that you’ll probably see me wear at another event, draw string bag (which I gave to Lemon along with Lost Planet 2) and a weird picture that ended up bent in my bag.

The place wasn’t packed which was refreshing, the fact they ran out of sodas in less than an hour was not . I shouldn’t be drinking soda anyway but can a Phire get a orange soda once in a while? So I did get to get my hands on the game. Platformers are not my favorite genre but if there’s a good one in front of me, I’ll play it. On a Wii this game looked really good. It was vibrant and very shiny (it’s very star based), the giant Bowser was impressive, although I never remembered him being that big (that’s what she said). I really couldn’t hear because of the DJ and the music but I would imagine this game’s tracks are memorable.

What’s interesting is that they’ve added a second player mode called “co-star” where you play as a star that follows Mario around. It can bring items to you, freeze enemies or shoot the stars that you collect to stun enemies. This frees up Mario to deliver the fatal K.O to the bad guys.

Kudos to Nintendo for a fun event.
