メイドカフェ!!!

So recently a friend of mine contacted me demanding that I enter some online contest to be a butler or host at this years New York Anime Festival.  During this year’s festival they will be running a maid cafe called Apple Kissa. Just what is a Maid Cafe well I’m glad you asked the Wikipedia answer is ‘ cosplay restaurants found predominantly in Japan. In these cafés, waitresses dressed in maid costumes act as servants, and treat customers as masters (and mistresses) in a private home, rather than as café patrons. The first maid café, Cure Maid Café, was established in Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan in March 2001, but maid cafés are becoming increasingly popular. As they have done so, the increased competition has made them become crazier in order to attract customers. They have also expanded overseas to countries like China, Taiwan, Mexico, Canada and the United States”

However I do have experience with some. In my time in Japan over the years I have visited a few my one of my favorites being Cafe with Cat, where the girls all have neko(cat) ears.The food is mainly sweets with cute designs on them.

My other favorite cafe is the At Home Cafe.  It in the biggest Don quixotie in Akibarha. It’s also home to Akb48. (I was so close to you Sakaya-chan（＾＿－）☆wink ). The girls here are dress up in the traditional maid gear. However this is/was the most popular maid at the time we were in Japan so the line for it was ridiculous. It seemed like every hour they were putting on a performace. Danerd and I waited on line for quite some time. What happened next would surprise me and even bewilder the battle hardened  Danerd. We were greeted with a welcome home Chris-sama( roughly translated ).Sama in the Japanese language is an honorific you reserve for some one who ranks higher on  the respect scale than you. They also assign you a maid that takes care of you, like any other restaurant you take your order and you talk and eat. What happened next may astound you. Near the end of our meal the maid asked how could I make this more cute for you. To which I had no reply, Danerd on the other hand asked if she could wear neko ears. At this point both of us were stunned and when she can came back she had on ears and a tail. In her hands she was carrying two childrens’ board games. She asked which did we want to play. I don’t remember what we played but we had fun.

Flash forward back to this post.  So when I thought about what my friend asked I was conflicted. How would one bring such a level of moe to the US where our customer service stinks.  Upon further research I found out they(apple kissa)  would provide costumes that you would then keep. Granted you maid it (see what I did there)  through their application process. The first part consists of the basic availability and size of clothing requirements.  The second part requires to do a 4 minute videos answering the next  five questions

(1) If you could compare yourself to any ONE anime or manga character, who would it be and why?
(2) What could you bring to the table as a potential new maid or butler?
(3) What are your hobbies and interests?
(4) Do you have any talents that can be showcased for Apple Kissa performances or can assist the café in any way? If so, please demonstrate.
(5) Why are you the best choice over other applicants to get a spot in NYAF’s Apple Kissa Café?

Crap, maid work is tough. So to figure this out I’ve enlisted Krismas and good friend Valaxeriel.

According to Krismas I am Urahara from Bleach flat out.

Sadly this is the same exact weekend of Comic Con. So even if I wanted to be a high powered maid or host. I couldn’t. What’s an otaku assassin to do? Well luckily the same friend who wanted me to be a butler is also an illustrator so he’s provided me with some images of what I’d look like as a jIdol.

I am quite interested in the last one honestly. I might grow my hair out for that. Mmmm maid cafe.
