Last night at the Japanese National Street Fighter IV, Yoshinori Ono himself came out and put the rumors to rest, finally announcing there will be an arcade release for Super Street Fighter IV. This will be the first time all of the console characters, including Gouken and Seth, will be released onto the Japanese competitive scene. A total addition of 18 characters will be going from consoles to the arcades, and the game will use the same arcade system board that its predecessor did, the Taito Type X2.
The announcement can be seen in the video below beginning at the 2:30 mark. Even though it’s completely in Japanese, you can clearly hear the words “Super Street Fighter Four” and “Arcades” being mentioned followed by a large graphic and a loud cheer from the audience.
Hopefully this means that this version of the game will be adopted over the original at Super Battle Opera this year. And although it’s highly unlikely that we’ll be seeing an official release here in the West, you can still bet on a few arcade operators to import the cabinet from Japan this summer.
If you don’t live near any arcades, or in Japan, you can still look forward to the Western console release of Super Street Fighter IV on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 on April 27th.
[Update] – Apparently considerations of adding new and exclusive characters (as well as tuning the existing ones) to the arcade version of SSFIV have been alluded to by some of the folks over at Capcom. Although still technically in the rumor mill, the Arcade conversion of the game is in development, so these changes are a possibility. Also, Seth Killian posted a slick new commercial for the game (shown below), and Capcom’s Christian Svensson confirmed that there is no PC version currently in development Never mind, it’s probably going to happen anyway, along with MvC3.
