365//365: Day 107 – The Amazing Spider-Man (GB) [PP]

04.17.2010

If Spider-Man does whatever a spider can, then the Game Boy game The Amazing Spider-Man scares the bejeezus out of people who get near either of them. Another LJN travesty, The Amazing Spider Man is a failure in every aspect, sans the awesome opening theme song. Seriously, it’s exceptionally well done, especially considered the power of the Game Boy in general, but is quickly silenced once you actually start the game. Unresponsive and incompetent controls lead to frustrating deaths, both in the form of the cheap pit gimmick, or enemies hitting you before you land one of your 2 second windup punches. The stages repeat a bit too often, as you’ll see the building climbing, rooftop and street level stages  more than once, with a Flintstones like scrolling background in each stage. It an ugly game all around. The other massive downfall to this game, aside from the controls, has to do with the lack of lives and continues. You’re going to run through all of your lives and all four continues in no time, thanks to how poorly constructed this game is. Definitely one of the worst handheld titles of all time, The Amazing Spider Man helps cement LJN’s legacy as the cream of the crap in the video game universe.
