Hello readers! Just a little update, I will now be writing up a featured xbox live arcade game 1-3 times a month. Sometimes I think XBLA is overlooked, and there are some really great games. At some point I will probably delve into the indie games as well. Anyway, first up is my new obsession: Lucidity. A 2-d side-scroller with fantastic art work. It is available for XBLA and Steam.
Sophie is a little girl who has recently lost her nana. Your goal is to help Sophie through her dreams, and eventually her nightmares while she searches for her. Your second objective is to collect the fireflies that are floating around the stage. You are given an array of tools at random that will make Sophie do different things as she approaches them. A fan will make her float really high and go through platforms, spring shoes make her bounce over things, sling shots make her fly forward, there are also blocks and stairs. This can be kind of frustrating as the objects do come randomly, but you can use as many as you want so I tend to have a little discard pile going on at some point from trying to get the object I want.
It is an incredibly sweet game, at the end of each level is a post card written from her nana about life. Very sentimental, probably too much so for some people. It also has an amazing piano soundtrack, I really want it! Is it a kid’s game though? In my opinion not really. As I progressed through some of the later stages I found it was very difficult. You’ll have more enemies, more pits to fall through, at one point I was at a stage that had no floor, so you had to make sure Sophie landed on something solid every time you bounced her. I like a challenge though, and I applaud them for doing that. Overall, it has a lot of stages and it’s a nice little game for the price.
