You do have some valid points that I agree with. Pocket Fighters does have a depth to it, with the gems that power up your special attacks and whatnot. I think my basic gripe was that it really didn't push me hard enough, and felt like I can go through the motions, without really giving much thought to even the gem power ups, and I can find success. Being so used to the frantic gameplay and quirky matches of various other fighting titles does that to me.

Pocket Fighters really isn't a bad game, that's for sure. It's very "pick up and play" and that does open up the target audience more than a game like Third Strike would. Its success definitely lies in the fact that anyone can pick up a controller, have fun, learn the moves and not feel like they will be overwhelmed. For me personally, I wasn't thrilled by that fact, but for sure, it's a good game for those that don't take the genre too seriously, or for those (such as myself) that won't let go of games like Third Strike!

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated!

"lacks depth and strategy when you compare it to such titles as Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike or any King of Fighters title"

Yes. But this:

a) Does not mean that there is no depth to the game (i.e. different skill levels translate to different match results)

b) Is actually an advantage for a lot of people.

You see, one of the characteristics that many fighting games share is that they cater to a very particular niche.

Pocket Fighters is a great game to have since you can play it with your non-hardcore friends and still have a blast. Best of all, your friends will not feel like idiots because they don't understand whatever might be going on while you pound their heads into the pavement.

Other than just evaluating the game from a hardcore gamer perspective (and *just* from that perspective) I found the review fun to read and informative. Keep it up =)
