Yesterday, Spike held its 2009 Video Game Awards. While it’s nowhere near the excitement of E3, it did have a few world premiers. The most prominent being Halo: Reach, which you can view above.

This was my first year actually tuning in. I found their presentation fell somewhere between shameless self promotion, live music and hosts that didn’t really have anything to do with what they were presenting, and Spike’s model girls. Ah the model girls, what are they there for anyway? I mean, I know it’s the men’s network, but does a girl dressed as a lizard with tail and all really come off as a turn on? Well maybe if it was Angelina Jolie as that serpent girl from Beowulf. Storm and I thought maybe they could be body guards in disguise and that if someone messed anything up they’d brutally beat them down… they should have done that now that I think about it. Probably would have made the show a lot more entertaining. The fake Jack Black GOTY speech isn’t doing it for me Spike.

Here are the winners for 2009:

Game of the Year: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (Yeah… party it up. The 360 fangirl inside me cries.)
Studio of the Year: Rocksteady Studios
Best Independent Game Fueled by Dew: Flower
Best Xbox 360 Game: Left 4 Dead 2 (What? I guess they had to win something)
Best PS3 Game: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Best Wii Game: New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii is lol… so it gets its own category.)
Best PC Game: Dragon Age: Origins (I know I bashed 360, but PC ver is rockin’!)
Best Handheld Game: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (Oh come on…)
Best Shooter: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (You bet it is.)
Best Fighting Game: Street Fighter IV (CL readers will be happy, but I vote Tekken6.)
Best Action Adventure Game: Assassin’s Creed II (Contender for GOTY sniffle.)
Best RPG: Dragon Age: Origins (Square needs to beat someone.)
Best Multiplayer Game: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Wait, did it have another purpose?)
Best Individual Sports Game: UFC 2009 Undisputed
Best Team Sports Game: NHL 10
Best Driving Game: Forza Motorsport 3 (I’ll give them that, I liked Forza.)
Best Music Game: The Beatles: Rock Band (Well it wasn’t going to Lego Rock Band…)
Best Soundtrack: DJ Hero (I downloaded a  fake OST and liked it better.)
Best Original Score: Halo 3: ODST (Wait it had more than 5? Or did they all sound the same…)
Best Graphics: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (What is PS3 precious?)
Best Game Based On A Movie/TV Show: South Park Let’s Go Tower Defense Play! (Err…)
Best Performance By A Human Female: Megan Fox as Mikaela Banes in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Oh boy, Megan Fox as… Megan Fox!)
Best Performance By A Human Male: Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Hurr.)
Best Cast: X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Do you play video games? DO YOU?)
Best Voice: Jack Black for the voice of Eddie Riggs in Brütal Legend (Also Jack Black as Jack Black pretty much. But I did enjoy his commentary.)
Best Downloadable Game: Shadow Complex (To 1.5 million people, everything was downloadable.)
Best DLC: Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony (Not what I thought the next GTA would be.)
Most Anticipated Game of 2010: God of War III (Indeed that makes sense.)

So there you go, your winners of the year. Be sure to stick around, we’ve got Jason backlogging the reviews for the 365 days 365 reviews project, Sakura Con in April, PAX East in March, and much more!

I live out in Seattle, Washington and work in the gaming industry. Gaming and I have a casual relationship right now, as I was big on MMOs for many years. I won't hesitate to get competitive though! I'm also a fan of anime and most things nerdy. I'd rather watch the History and Discovery channel more than anything else when I'm in front of the TV! Back in the day I jumped from Super Nintendo, to Dreamcast, to the original XBOX. By most gamer's standards I was deprived. High school was the first time I really got serious about games when a friend of mine got me in to Ragnarok Online. From there I jumped to L2 and FFXI. Now I play many genres and styles of games, and am nerdier than ever!
