A short catch up.

Hello CLgamer readers! I’m finally back from my trip to Europe. My first stop of the cruise was Monaco, France… where all us Americans felt fat and poor all of the sudden. Got yelled at for doing handstands on the lawn of Hagia Sophia mosque in Istanbul, Turkey. Went swimming in my bra in Nice, France because it was too hot. The cruise line photographers harassed us so much I expected them to pop out of my cabin toilet saying “Everyone together now! Smile!”. Ended up on the news in Turkey and waved as the media did a live broadcast about 5 supposed outbreaks of swine flu aboard the ship (where there wasn’t). Suffered in 112 degree weather in Athens. Sun-burnt only one side of my body so now I’m only half tanned. Got 11 bug bites in Venice from sleeping with the window open and the lights on. Finally had a 35 hour day flying back to Seattle, and an unplanned 6hr layover in JFK, NY while we waited for a thunderstorm to pass. All and all it was a fun trip though, definately worth it… however I’d recommend to avoid touring places where your money is worth less than theirs.

Anyway… now to the actual topic: First, PAX 2009!

Since I’ll be in Seattle, WA for the next month or two, there WILL be coverage of PAX (Penny Arcade Expo). If you don’t know what that is… it’s sort of like a little mini E3 geared towards fans.

Why should the east coast care? Because PAX will be on the east coast for the first time ever in 2010. It will be held in Boston and pre-reg is already open.

PAX combines the fan base for table top, PC, and video gamers. It features nerdcore concerts, tournaments, free play, panel discussions, and an exhibition hall filled with booths displaying the latest from top gaming companies. Including unreleased content. Aside from that, PAX hosts its own tournament that includes many different games on different platforms, and last year the final winner got an all expenses paid trip to Japan for the Tokyo Game Show.

I’ve got a 3 day pass so I will have access to all events, if you’re tuned in to the goings on of PAX and want to make a request that I cover something in specific feel free to do that.

Second: The Traveler’s Guide to Seattle.

Useful to you Sakura Con goers.

If you’re not FROM Seattle, chances are you wont find the best of the best without knowing about them first. Hopefully I can get you guys some pictures of the insides of these places. That which include;

Daiso – Random things imported from Japan, all of which are $1-1.50.

Uwajimaya & Kinokuniya Books – Untranslated & translated manga, CDs, books, magazines, clothes, plushies, food, drinks, and more.

Pink Godzilla – Imported games and console systems, as well as localized.

International Model Toys – Award winning Gundam models, Gundam kits, anime merchandise.

Anime Raiku – Anime store, fun staff!

Possibly more than this that I’m forgetting.

Maybe, Maybe Not, Maybe…

It’s also a possibility I can get up to Vancouver Canada to cover some of the amazing arcades and restaurants for you. It’s a really great place so I’ll do my best on getting a trip organized.

NYAF: Hopefully my press badges get cleared, if not then for sure other CL writers will be covering it.

I live out in Seattle, Washington and work in the gaming industry. Gaming and I have a casual relationship right now, as I was big on MMOs for many years. I won't hesitate to get competitive though! I'm also a fan of anime and most things nerdy. I'd rather watch the History and Discovery channel more than anything else when I'm in front of the TV! Back in the day I jumped from Super Nintendo, to Dreamcast, to the original XBOX. By most gamer's standards I was deprived. High school was the first time I really got serious about games when a friend of mine got me in to Ragnarok Online. From there I jumped to L2 and FFXI. Now I play many genres and styles of games, and am nerdier than ever!
