Yay MVC2 this week.

So this week Marvel vs Capcom 2 comes out. I remember fondly playing this game in arcades about 10 years ago(yes I’m that old). I am excited and kind of saddened for this release. Why you may ask? Well the game itself is a very simple game, 4 attack buttons + 2 call ins, then there’s the basic to advanced fighting game stuff(tech rolls, advancing guard, tk’ing/tiger kneeing moves) included. There’s also that extremely large cast of characters, (almost all of my favorite Marvel characters are in there and some of my Capcom ones) but what is it that saddens me about the game? Well it’s this:

Basically, the game’s devolved into about 10 usable characters if that out of 50 something ;( . Yeah, there is team MSP Magneto (one of your favorites) Storm/Sentinel (two you can care less about) and Psylocke (omg yes) but with everyone pretty much playing the same team there’ll be nothing but mirror matches online. I mean there’s always Cable and his nonsense but still, I remember the days before lemon broke the game. People were using teams based on who they actually liked so you would see some Ryu/Ken action, some Sakura, etc. Those were the days, maybe I’ll just play casually, who knows. I can say confidently though that 09′ has definitely been the year of the fighting game. I wouldn’t say it has been a renaissance but I definitely feel that fighting games, at least for a little while, have been brought back to attention here in America.

Plus side of a MvC2 release though, is that we get treated to more silly things like this ;D

But then there was this classic clutch because it’s so clutch in the most clutch and masculine clutch way:

I’d buy it if my arcade stick suddenly didn’t stop having a working RT button. Have not used the damn thing more than twice in two months either. No way I’m touching this game on a pad that’s not a PS pad!
