OPEN DISCUSSION: Forza 3 vs Gran Turismo 5 who will be the winner?

06.03.2009

I have watched all the press conferences like everyone else and will be writing up an article soon comparing the 360, WII and PS3. One conversation that has been bugging me though is Forza 3 vs Gran Turismo 5. I personally think Gran Turismo will out shine Forza 3, but surprisingly there are a lot of people who think the complete opposite. This is not about my opinion though, its about yours. Here at Cl Gamer we would love to hear your opinion on who would win this battle of the racers.

I believe in keeping an open mind so it would be great to get some more facts from some heavy Forza followers and some heavy Gran Turismo lovers. Feel free to leave your comments below, looking forward to it. Also look out for my next article coming soon.

MMM interesting predicament. Right now i’m playing Gran turismo 2 on psp just for some simulation. I own Forza 2 and i love it but I also have a soft spot in my heart for the GT series. I’m also itching to get back into the racing scene after watching Initial D. One thing that bothers me with gt5 is that there’s not many tracks. The previous version has more tracks. So do I get gt4 on the ps2 or the 360 verison.

Okay, I consider myself a VERY hardcore racing gamer. I mean, I’ve played every Gran Turismo, Tokyo Xtreme Racer and TOCA series. That’s also including Street Racing Syndicate, the numerous Ford Racing games, Axel Impact and plenty of old school and arcade titles like Sega Super GT.

The problem w/ Gran Turismo isn’t in what’s going to sell more. It has name recognition like Britney Spears, so that’s to be expected. It’s in the gameplay that it lacks.

GT is light years behind in the industry standards of what makes a great racing game these days.
Even the TXR series has bypassed it, only failing in visual areas and mainstream notoriety. What’s worse is that the lead brass of the company don’t even play other games to see where they can keep up and where they can innovate. They’re content on selling copies and resting on their laurels without any real risk.

Years ago I was a huge Forza hater. However, when Forza 2 came around, I really had time to sit down with it and see that it offered almost everything I wanted in a new GT. It just lacks personality and flair, which you tend to overlook after about an hour or so.

GT5 simply looks like more of the same and very little updates. They’re even half-assing the potential damage modeling system, which is far overdue for about 10yrs now. Forza 3 seems like it’s trying to push the envelope of what racing sim can be on a console and then some.

Now I dunno about you, but regardless of the platform, that’s something pretty admirable.

Forza 3 hands down is the better game.

Very interesting stuff…. Forza 3 seems to have a promising future…. New cars, new courses, new races. They have come a long way…… Very impressive stuff…. It’s new way of racing…. Ok, enough with the kinds words for Forza. For the people who don’t know, it’s Gran Turismo 5: The REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR…….. I would suggest if you play a racing game for fun, technical, this is not for you. Everybody has their preferences and I respect that.

Now lately, I’ve been hearing Gran Turismo hasn’t changed over the years…. I have to ask one question, has the car industry real changed?…. Gran Turismo 5: The REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR…… I also notice a lot of people say that just because of the name, it’s going to sell more. I beg the differ…. There are games that came out that has a big name but fail miserably with sequels….. example: Fighting Force, Syphon Filter, Crazy Taxi, Etc…. Gran Turismo has been steady with sales….. If it was that bad, it would have not existed after part 1. I know if it was that bad, I wouldn’t buy it….. Gran Turismo 5: The REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR. On to the gameplay…. I hear Gran Turismo won’t stand a chance against Forza and if it does, it’s because of the name… Well, that’s sort right…. But like I just said above, they have been steady and they make improvements…. I also hear well it doesn’t have car damage in it and the weather don’t change… Guess what? They are putting it in part 5….. Here’s the ming boggler…. They put tests in the game so you don’t drive like a maniac down the course with the fastest car….Plus realistically speaking, in reality, I serious doubt the driver would like to bust up his car on a course running into walls and other cars and his car happens to be over a million dollars. In the real race, (If you ever saw it in action on T.V.), you never see a really bad collison. They are trained in each course. I would think testing you so don’t have to crash into everything. Realistically, you have to take a test to learn how to drive on certain parts of a course…. Now for all the people who wish to drive on a course at 200 mph and then do 180 degree turn at 180 mph, I would suggest you shouldn’t play Gran please….. Realistically wise, you have to use brakes and occassionally the emergency brakes… Now to show it’s really realistic, you can drift every five seconds cause it can take a toll on your tires… Again, realistic.

With the selection of cars, you have plenty…. With the exception of part 1 and 3, each game has over 200. Part 2 has 599, and part four has 789. Part 5 will have over 900. Nuff said… I don’t if you notice, the roster of car companies seem to be expanding….. What makes it funny is, Polyphony is not begging car companies to enter the game…. They tend to be asked ONCE, and it’s either a yes or no…. Also, just to show you how even the car companies are towards the game, the companies don’t charge a lot or even not at all to put the cars in the game. They would like commission if the game sell a lot but it’s mostly to promote the cars in the game…. For those who think well, they don’t offer a large selection of colors in the game…. You have a problem with it, take it up with the car company. Gran doesn’t produce cars that is not cleared with the company. For example…. The Audi R8 was only in one color in part 4.(For some odd reason, people was saying they are glad it’s in part 5 like it never came out. That’s why people need to play the game.) Now they just release the Red Color. So in total the R8 has about 4 to 5 different colors out. Want more? Talk to Audi and boycott. They go by what the car companies want to represent.

For the looks, the game always step up their game. The graphics is beyond most games today….. By far, the easiest to look at while playing…. The music is not super great but it’s tolerable. The sound of each unique car is great. The tune up quality is great too. You can’t just picked the fastest car in the game and always expect to win…. Gotta know how to drive…. Learn to use a car that is 128 hp in a race with 128 hp cars instead of using a 480 hp car with 128 hp cars and say it’s easy. The experience is a lot more better.

I have been a huge fan of this game for the longest… Since it came out. And for people who think that I’m one of those psycho fans, I would like to say I’m a psycho fanatic with this game. Now it’s not perfect (No car damage and weather yet until part 5, AL can be stupid as hell, and if you hit a car the right way, you can slide off that car and maintain a fast speed), but it’s still great. I have played other racing games (Project Gotham, Sega GT, Grid, Forza 2, etc.)and thought they were great but Gran Turismo is the best for simulation. To give you a reason why you should seriously think about the comparison, even professional drivers and Car and Driver magazine go by Gran Turismo…. What does that tell you…. Last time I heard, I didn’t even remotely hear Forza. Gran Turismo 5: The REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!

Which ever one lets me throw shells at the other racers is my pick.

Sorry guys. I’m not a huge motor head, so I’m not a big racer fan. The only straight up racing games that I really loved are Ridge Racer 4 and Apex.

However, I’m gonna throw in my two cents and say that GT has a leg up for a totally unrelated issue: Nissan, as of late, has been getting the graphics team for the GT series to do their displays for all of their on board computers.

well aside from purchasing both I want to give the edge to GT simply because it has the PSP version to back it up which looks amazing… I’ve been playing racers such as TXR , SRS , MSR (DC) , Toca , Auto modellista , forza , and a numerous amount of other racers… Forza impressed me with their body damage to the car GT didnt have it until NOW….BUT we have to take into consideration how you actually had to do work to get your license in the GT series which made you eager to do MORE work…

its a 50/50 in this case…but ill definitely get the GT 5 when it hits stores first then get forza later
