Blood: The Last Vampire Movie (2009)

06.18.2009

Producer Bill Kong (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Hero) will be working on the live action adaption of the anime Blood: The Last Vampire. It will be filmed mainly for an English audience. We can expect to see a US theater release July 10th 2009, and it has already been released to the UK.

Synopsis from IMDB states the story line; “A vampire named Saya, who is part of covert government agency that hunts and destroys demons in a post-WWII Japan, is inserted in a military school to discover which one of her classmates is a demon is disguise.”

Personally I did not watch the anime, nor read the manga, I followed a little bit of the follow up anime Blood+ which was pretty decent. Most reviewers say that it follows closely to the anime, but not the manga. It is being praised for it’s merging of 2D and 3D design, as well as stunning animation. However it is also being criticized for short length and lack of conclusion. Aside from that it evoked quite a lot of controversy in Japan as the main villain was casted by a Japanese actor and Saya (protagonist) was casted by a Korean actor.

That being said, I’m still excited to see it, anything from the maker of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero will earn a spot on my must see list. Not only that but the trailer is quite convincing! I hope it will be as good as I want it to be.

I live out in Seattle, Washington and work in the gaming industry. Gaming and I have a casual relationship right now, as I was big on MMOs for many years. I won't hesitate to get competitive though! I'm also a fan of anime and most things nerdy. I'd rather watch the History and Discovery channel more than anything else when I'm in front of the TV! Back in the day I jumped from Super Nintendo, to Dreamcast, to the original XBOX. By most gamer's standards I was deprived. High school was the first time I really got serious about games when a friend of mine got me in to Ragnarok Online. From there I jumped to L2 and FFXI. Now I play many genres and styles of games, and am nerdier than ever!

I didn’t like the anime, but I’ll give this a shot. We should see Machine GIrl though for pure schlok and horror value.

I haven’t heard of that, horror sounds good though =D

Blood:the last vampire, though a magnificent anime,I wasn’t to fasinated by the live action film. there were a couple of points in the film that caught my attention since they were scenes from the animated film (the much more gorier one)i feel this movie was made on the border line of low budget and normal budget production. i also believe that this movie could have gone with some much better screen play action. I think a 8.3/10 would do it justice.
