Producer Bill Kong (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Hero) will be working on the live action adaption of the anime Blood: The Last Vampire. It will be filmed mainly for an English audience. We can expect to see a US theater release July 10th 2009, and it has already been released to the UK.
Synopsis from IMDB states the story line; “A vampire named Saya, who is part of covert government agency that hunts and destroys demons in a post-WWII Japan, is inserted in a military school to discover which one of her classmates is a demon is disguise.”
Personally I did not watch the anime, nor read the manga, I followed a little bit of the follow up anime Blood+ which was pretty decent. Most reviewers say that it follows closely to the anime, but not the manga. It is being praised for it’s merging of 2D and 3D design, as well as stunning animation. However it is also being criticized for short length and lack of conclusion. Aside from that it evoked quite a lot of controversy in Japan as the main villain was casted by a Japanese actor and Saya (protagonist) was casted by a Korean actor.
That being said, I’m still excited to see it, anything from the maker of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero will earn a spot on my must see list. Not only that but the trailer is quite convincing! I hope it will be as good as I want it to be.
