“why won’t they bring this back?!”

04.27.2009

Now i know i may not speak for everyone but i do believe i can strike a chord in many a person when i say there are some games that, regardless of how it is done, must not be laid to rest in the coffin of a nostalgic and possibly not working system from the olden days. Yes I’m talking about bringing classic titles back in all of their epic and sometimes unbeatable glory.

Now i know what some of you are thinking. “Remakes are craptastic most of the time; i don’t trust (insert license-owning-tyrant here) remaking (insert glorious nostalgia title) for any of these next gen systems >[" I hear what you are saying and i can understand the apprehension. I am kinda on that fence as well. My stance is this---

"if you are going to go ahead and try to remake the game, don't. Instead, first give us a port of the original for download on the marketplace/psstore/shoppingchannel. If you want to be a little ambitious simply ASK US if we want the graphics updated; just make it cleaner and possibly more artistic and better to look at while keeping the original system intact. If ya wanna take the big plunge there's a few things that will save you from burning in the fiery hell of gamer-hate.

1~this is important. MAKE THE ORIGINAL VERSION AVALAIBLE ALONGSIDE THE BRANDSPANKIN AND PROBABLY NOT-NEARLY-AS-GOOD NEW ONE. This way if you fail, we have the original to recreate our happy times and stop us from shoving powergloves up your ass.

2~keep the spirit of the original game at the heart of the new one. If it was a beat'em up with a unique style and memorable enemies and little regards to story, don't go and try making it more epic by adding some tragic story and then skimping on the gameplay. unless the prior game was cheesy, don't cheese it out with horrible character enemies either.

3~KEEP THE ORIGINAL CAST. sure you can add other people, but please please don't get rid of the old characters. lots of old games thrived on the fact that their protagonist(s) was awesome [captain commando, strider, ninja gaiden, duke nukem, final fight etcetc]. Even some of the antagonists need to return.

4~IF THE GAME HAD MULTIPLAYER, KEEP IT! IF IT DIDN’T, TRY THINKING ABOUT GIVING IT MULTIPLAYER. Whether it be for cooperations sake, or for competition, nobody can deny they love some multiplayer action. it is essential for some games, and much needed in others.

5~DONT REVAMP THE MUSIC IN A DIFFERENT STYLE! if the game was full of synthesizy awesomeness then continue with synthesizy awesomness. i don’t wanna see random rock garbage in my streets of rage -_-

I think that as long as these guidelines are taken into consideration, at the very least we will have a tolerable remake/sequel. Now as to the issue of WHAT games need have this done to them, well i have specific tastes so I’m just going to give my choices, feel free to comment and add suggestions/ discuss any choices.

1. ~ Guardian Heroes ~  boy did this game have it all. Intense storyline with tons of endings and bosses. An amazing cast of characters. Incredibly replayability. Outrageously fun multiplayer mayhem which could house 6 players and too many playable characters to count. A unique control system and fun gameplay make this one of my favorite games of all time! I don’t really want this to be remade, but i most definitely would like to see this cleaner and sharper. but i do NEED this on one of my systems.

2 ~ Goldeneye ~ I feel like this is pretty self explanatory. i would rather a straight port because i think an update in graphics would change how the game is played.

3 ~ Mach Rider ~ i feel a remake is necessary here. Beating the original took split second decisions and most of all LUCK. [random spawning barrels ftw -_-] i would like to keep the gameplay and the speed of things the same, i just want to be able to see barrels or oil slicks before they are two sprites away from me. and for gods sake KEEP THE MUSIC!!

4 ~ Streets Of Rage 2 ~ because the 3rd one failed so much, i want redemption.

ill leave it at that for now. i hope you guys give some ideas here!

  • The Predator

Just want to point out Goldeneye was done (quite horribly i might add) already by E.A. I love the classics as much as the next chap but if the some of the original makers aren’t making the remake/sequel odds are it is going to be trash. If they are gonna take a crap all over my fav classic games when they make a remake i’d rather they stay classics.

  • Duke

I got another one to add..Kid chameleon. Did spite what people say..THAT was an fun and ideal Action platformer for the mega drive system..also bring vector man back as well.

i do not count those sequels or follo-up titles as goldeneye remakes. those were 007 games instead. theres only one goldeney game and thats for the n64.
Ah kid chameleon was a good one!
vector man had potential that it didnt reach but it might be interesting to see that redone even.
    how about kickle cubicle anyone?
