Haruhi Suzumiya – Airs tonight, rerun or S2?

04.02.2009

For quite some time now, fans have been expecting the coveted season 2 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and were repeatedly let down with announcements of reruns. While we had all been expecting Spring season to be the same story, Kyoto Animation and Kadokawa have decided to have some fun with their fans. So here’s the story of the past 3 days;

- Several TV stations list Haruhi as a rerun.

-Yahoo lists Nishiya Futoshi as the art director for episode 1 airing tonight, but season 1 was directed by Ikeda Shouko.

-Yahoo lists Asahina Mikuru no Bouken Episode00 as tonight’s episode.

-Reports are made that Haruhi will run for 28 weeks (opposed to the original 14) , and will also be aired for additional seasons like a new series.

-Haruhi is not listed as a rerun on TVK’s website anymore.

-Kadokawa has given a silence order to all TV stations saying that they are not to release any information, and only list this season as a rerun.

So what are our possibilities? It could be the original season 1 with new episodes inserted which many people believe it to be, it could be season 1′s episode with S2 following, something completely new, or just an actual re-run… which would be very sad. If it does turn out to be S2 that will be quite the stir up for the anime community.

If you understand Japanese you’ll be able to watch the episode tonight on Nico Nico Douga (ニコニコ動画 – Requires registration How-to Guide here). NND is sort of like a Japanese Youtube with scrolling commentary. Or you can wait for it to pop up elsewhere on the web if you’re a quality lover like me.

Will be airing right now (As of this post time).

I live out in Seattle, Washington and work in the gaming industry. Gaming and I have a casual relationship right now, as I was big on MMOs for many years. I won't hesitate to get competitive though! I'm also a fan of anime and most things nerdy. I'd rather watch the History and Discovery channel more than anything else when I'm in front of the TV! Back in the day I jumped from Super Nintendo, to Dreamcast, to the original XBOX. By most gamer's standards I was deprived. High school was the first time I really got serious about games when a friend of mine got me in to Ragnarok Online. From there I jumped to L2 and FFXI. Now I play many genres and styles of games, and am nerdier than ever!
