Here Comes A New Challenger!!!!

Who is this new character in SF4?  The one that everyone has been waiting for,

GOUKEN (GOU= strong, powerful, firm, solid — KEN = Fist) He is the revered master of Ryu and Ken. The true older brother of Gouki.  He had perfected and made sophisticated the technique which was originally
the assassination fist.   After it was made perfect, he taught this technique to Ryu and Ken.
It was believed that he was killed by Gouki, but somehow he appeared again.  (Taken from Official SF4 Website and translated by TGA Staff)

Now since he is going to be a playable character in SF4, this answers many things such as more story details and to play the new version of a shoto.  Everyone must’ve remembered how many people loved playing Akuma.  Imagine all the people playing Gouken when the release comes out.  I have played him at CES 2009 at the Capcom Game Show at Planet Hollywood.  He is soo fun.  His movelist is pretty similar to the shotos from today but they have more of a twist.  He has a ground fireball and a fireball going into a 45 degree angle.  He also has a hurricane kick but it goes vertically.  He also has counters and a teleport with an attack.  His ultra is basically a shin shoryuken.  Which hurts alot when contact.

Now the main question… Top tier or not?  I personally played him, I do think he is top tier.  He may have low defense as akuma, but the tools he has overall as a character, he is top tier.  You cannot tell which direction he throws the fireball.  His counter, when it successfully counters the opponent fly aways and also Gouken will gain a part of his revenge meter.  His teleport attack, he can also go through fireballs and it helps you travelled the screen.

But we will see how Gouken will turn out when the console release comes out.

    I’ve started using Gouken almost exclusively now. Well Chun Li quite a bit too. Play smart and he’s disgusting. His fireball mix ups reminds me of Urien, but charging long enough to add a second hit to the projectile can throw some off. His “parry” being able to snuff some Supers and Ultras is just cool, though very situational. Was able to snuff a wake up Guile Ultra with it, and get a good laugh. His defense is a little weak for sure yeah. I’m not a tier slut, but upper mid sounds proper. Top 10 for sure. Best new char imo.

    Train me some, Mr. Lemon!
